18-Year-Old Girl Commits Suicide Over Poor JAMB UTME Score In Delta State

A teenage Nigerian woman seeking for admission has reportedly taken her own life after securing a very low UTME score.  An admission-seeker simply identified as Loveth has reportedly killed herself in Ekiugbo, Ughelli North local government area of Delta State.   According to The Nation, Loveth, who was said to be displeased with the 163 mark she garnered in the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), was found dead at her home on Wednesday morning.   Before her death, she had applied to study medicine in the university. UPDATED: Tension as Police, soldiers clash with Road Safety officers in Abuja

A major fracas broke out amongst Nigerian law enforcement agencies in Abuja on Wednesday, after an attempt to seal a Road Safety office went awry. PREMIUM TIMES learnt that the violence broke out after soldiers and policemen attached to The Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) tried to serve the Road Safety office in Wuze Zone 7 a violation notice. The police officers and soldiers attached to the AEBP officials allegedly assaulted a female Road Safety marshal in the process, leading to confrontation. The AEPB task force members denied assaulting the Road Safety personnel, saying they were resisted from sealing the Road Safety office as ordered by a magistrate’s court. During the fight, a soldier was reportedly wounded and a civilian staff of the AEPB was “taken hostage” by the Road Safety marshals. JAMB Registrar speaks on cut-off marks, breakdown of registered UTME candidates

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified that cut-off points are not set by the body. The exams will begin on Saturday May 13, 2017 .   He explained that a policy committee chaired by the Minister of Education, with the Board, Vice-Chancellors, Provosts of Colleges of Education and Polytechnic Rectors as members, is saddled with the task. The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, said this at the news briefing on Tuesday in Bwari, in preparation for the conduct of this year’s UTME. He described cut-off points to be a minimum requirement and not an indication that one was admissible. JAMB: Two identical twins arrested for malpractice in 2018 UTME Two identical twins have been arrested for alleged examination malpractice in the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), at the University of Maiduguri centre, Borno. Mr Babagana Gutti, Chief Examiner Officer in the state, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the twins were apprehended by the security operatives on Saturday in Maiduguri. Gutti said that the lookalike brothers tricked invigilators and security personnel to gain entrance to the centre. Some candidates who sat for the ongoing 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) say they found the use of computers challenging. One the candidates, Aliyu Dikko who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said the questions were not as challenging as the use of the computer. Aliyu said that his inability to use the computer was because he was coming from a rural part of the town and that access to the such gadget was a challenge. He said that the little knowledge he had on the use of computer was a bit different from what he experienced while sitting for the examination. “For instance, I got so tensed I skipped to the next page when I was not through with the one I was answering. “Apart from this, everything went fine with me; I’ll just go and pray that God favours me,” he said. A Catholic Priest has found himself in deep trouble after he unknowingly partook in the trafficking of a little baby in Osun State.                                   Rev. Father Chike Ejiofor and the other suspects A Reverend Father, along with other culprits, has been arrested for stealing an 18-month-old baby in Osogbo, Osun state. The child was kidnapped from his mother and sold to an orphanage. The priest, Rev. Father Chike Ejiofor, who heads Our Lady of Fatima parish in Woliwo, Onitsha, Anambra State, is believed to have unknowingly become an accomplice after a parishioner approached him that she wanted to adopt a child and he referred her to the orphanage the baby was sold to and even helped her through the process. Fear has gripped residents of Ezimuku, Agbaja in Abatete area of Anambra state after a young man killed his own father and stabbed his mother in a shocking incident.  A young man killed his own father and stabbed his mother in a tragic incident which happened earlier today at Ezimuku, Agbaja in Abatete area of Anambra state.   The young man was arrested by the Abatete vigilante group and placed in handcuffs as he was handed over to the police.   The identity of the victim, the suspect and the reason he meted out the horror on his parents are still unknown as at the time of filing this report.

An asthma patient has died after a doctor reportedly refused to attend to her because she came late to the hospital.  A five-year-old girl died of an asthma attack after a doctor refused to see her because she was late to her appointment, an inquest heard today. Little Ellie-May Clark, who suffered from ‘life-threatening asthma’, was taken to her surgery after falling ill at school.   Mum Shanice Clark had called the clinic for an emergency appointment after Ellie-May had been unable to walk home and was wheezing. But Shanice said she was five minutes late to Ellie-May’s 5pm appointment and then had to wait in line to speak to the receptionist. An inquest heard she reached the reception desk of The Grange Clinic in Newport, South Wales between 5.10pm and 5.18pm.   But because the surgery had a ’10 minute rule’ for lateness, GP Dr Joanne Rowe told Shanice and Ellie-May to return the next day. A popular politician will die by hanging after he killed a man who tried to separate a fight between him and the girlfriend. A Lusaka Court has sentenced a prominent opposition politician to death for killing a guard who tried to mediate in the politician’s fight with his girlfriend.   Keith Mukata, a Zambian politician shot the guard dead as the latter was attempting to separate him from a girlfriend the politician was fighting with. “The Lusaka High has sentenced Chilanga UPND Member of Parliament, [Keith] Mukata to death by hanging after finding him guilty of murder,”  Africareview reported.   Mukata’s co accused and girlfriend Charmane Musonda, was acquitted due to lack of evidence.   The duo was arrested on May 6, 2017 for allegedly shooting to death the security guard, Mr Namakambwa Kalilakwenda.   Lusaka High Court Judge Susan Wanjelani was quoted saying there was overwhelming evidence that Mukata killed his security guard. ...
